Bellwood is a diverse and thriving community at the crossroads of the western suburbs. The village is bisected by Mannheim Road, the region's largest arterials and a commercial corridor. Located at the village's southern edge, the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) provides rapid access to Chicago's Loop, only 13 miles to the east, and I-294. Residents can also catch the Metra train from the newly renovated Bellwood station.
The village is currently hard at work on major community improvement projects. Eleven new for-sale townhomes are planned in the second phase of the successful Park Place development. The village also plans to upgrade and beautify both Mannheim Road and 25th Street, which is expected to attract new businesses to the corridors.
Bellwood is a family-friendly community that prides itself on innovative programming and services for all age groups. School children up to 5th grade receive $5 for every A on their report card. For older children ages 12-18, the village has built a state-of-the-art Teen Zone, where children can study or visit with friends in a safe environment. The Teen Zone includes a computer center, Xbox gaming room, and a TV lounge, and provides constant adult supervision.
Seniors are important part of the Bellwood community fabric, and the village offers an excellent array of senior facilities, services and programming. West Suburban Senior Services has operated a senior center at 439 Bohland Avenue for over 30 years, where members can socialize with friends, participate in clubs or seminars, and enjoy a dietician-approved lunch. For all seniors, rides to the center, grocery stores, or anywhere in the township costs only one dollar.
